Hello! My name is Mrs. Martinez and I am very excited to get to know you this year :) I would like to give you a chance to get to know me.
I grew up in a small town in northern NJ and knew from a very young age that I wanted to become a teacher. I wanted to give my students the same opportunity of a quality education that I had received. I decided to go to Boston University to help me achieve my goal. My passion for teaching grew stronger while student-teaching in the suburbs of Boston. After graduating with a BS in Elementary Education, I returned to NJ to begin my career.
This is the 11th year that I will have the pleasure of teaching at Dorchester! During this time, I have taught both 4th grade and 5th grade. I am very excited to continue working within this wonderful community of learners.
I encourage my students to set personal, academic, and social goals that they can strive to achieve. This is the cornerstone of my educational philosophy. I firmly believe that if you work hard and believe in yourself, the possibilities are limitless! In 5th grade, we will focus on developing a growth mindset and an understanding that we become stronger when we learn from our challenges!
In 5th Grade ELA, students are encouraged to work together and learn from one another in a safe, encouraging, and judgement-free zone. By maintaining a strong sense of community, we can learn from one another and help each other achieve our goals as a cohesive unit.
A healthy relationship between home and school is paramount for each student. I am very excited to be working with such a great community. A student’s education can truly thrive with support coming from both home and school working together.
I like to make learning fun and exciting while simultaneously boosting confidence, comprehension, and a love for learning. I truly believe that everyone, regardless of age, learns something new every day. Embrace it and grow!
